My name is Rachel M. Joyce. I am a lifelong writer and animal nerd as well as a college student pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. I have been a writer since before I could write (literally; I would dictate words to my dad and have him write them down on construction paper stapled together into a book) and for as long as I have been a writer I have been telling animal stories. Films and books that captured a unique perspective of the human experience without using humans at all always captured my heart as well. I am infinitely fascinated with all animals and their perspectives of the world, and as you can imagine I own multiple pets including my tortie cat Scout, 2 spaniel dogs, a crested gecko, and even an axolotl. My little zoo inspires me every day. In my free time I also enjoy writing and singing songs, crafting, and of course, reading.
Growing up I found myself with a particular fascination with wolves and how they were portrayed in media. Classic stories depict wolves as devious villains, while in current media they seem to be gaining a reputation as mysterious antiheroes. When looking into the eyes of a wolf, one can't help but wonder about its true nature. I decided I would like to explore that, delving into the inner workings of lupine kind, questions of morality and mortality, relationships between these fierce beings, all of course with fantastical elements mixed in that make fantasy fiction so much fun to imagine. Forest Pack was the result, a series centered around an electrokinetic she-wolf and her struggles with other wolves and the storm within herself. The first book has been drafted multiple times within the last ten years, and I can confidently say I finally have a professionally edited version that I can begin querying. Ready to join my pack?
